On a Day Like Today

EW's GRADE
B

Details Lead Performance: Bryan Adams

If you can get past the insipid lyrics (''Free is all you gotta be/Dream dreams no one else can see''), On a Day Like Today — the album title and a hook-heavy power ballad — is about as close to heaven (and ''Heaven'') as Bryan Adams has managed in recent years. Co-penned by Phil Thornalley — the guy behind Natalie Imbruglia's ''Torn'' — it's the sort of happy-sappy throwaway that can, to steal a bad line from Adams, make the sun ''shine, shine thru the rain.''
