Casting about for direction, major-label Nashville is investing in a new flock of female singers with a rootsy, neotraditional sound: Sara Evans, Lee Ann Womack, and Allison Moorer, whose Alabama Song debut has fine songs (most cowritten by the singer), perfect arrangements, and first-class picking. The weak link is her voice, which lacks the spark of individuality that could make her music something more than generic late-'90s retro. B-
