If saxophonist Joshua Redman's taste on Timeless Tales is inclusive — he mixes tunes by Prince, Joni Mitchell, the Beatles, Bob Dylan, and Stevie Wonder alongside jazz standards — his approach to his choices remains fairly lightweight. Laden with self-conscious arrangements and distressingly banal improvising, these tales come off far more dated than timeless. B-
