Lead Performance: The Band

Is The Band still the band? On the group's 10th studio album Jubilation, Eric Clapton's lead guitar helps flesh out a tune, and John Hiatt proves a welcome diversion on ''Bound by Love.'' Without Robbie Robertson's hard nuggets of currency, however, the songs — though still organic and down-homey — are also slighter and less authentic. With its jangly Arcadian funk, ''Last Train to Memphis'' sounds bound for New Orleans, not Tennessee. B-
