New Radicals is a vehicle for one Gregg Alexander, a young Midwestern singer-guitarist whose abundant optimism (''You've got a reason to live!'') is matched only by his gift for crafting the sort of upbeat, soulful pop-rock (think a slightly older and wiser Hanson) that could make Saint-John's-wort redundant. Imagine: a filler-free album of 12 undeniably great, life-affirming songs. Maybe You've Been Brainwashed Too is radical indeed. A-
