After landing a few of his screwy love odes on the soundtrack to There's Something About Mary, the cultish singer-songwriter Jonathon Richman won some new, younger fans. That overdue approbation has apparently done wonders for his muse; for the first time in years, he's shed his grating penchant for writing soft-headed novelty songs in favor of I'm So Confused's grown-up, gently amusing tales that plumb love's sweet mysteries. B+
