First Blood and Rambo: First Blood Part II

Deluxe repackaging of Stallone's Reagan-era reclamation of the Vietnam War. First Blood holds up surprisingly well, while the bigger-in-every-way Rambo: First Blood Part II is much sillier. First sports engaging commentary from David Morrell, author of the original novel; Rambo's track from director George Pan Cosmatos and a Joseph Campbell-ish 25-minute docu are snoozes. Both discs offer read-aloud production notes and cast bios that scroll by themselves (on most DVDs, you advance the text). No word from Sly, but a trivia game from First reveals that he modeled his characterization on James Dean in East of Eden! First: B- The extras: B; Rambo: C- The extras: C-
