GINGERVITIS The Spice Girls' quest for world domination continues apace. Departed Spice Girl Geri Halliwell (a.k.a. Ginger Spice) recently signed a three-album deal with EMI for a reported $3 million and is ''well into'' recording her first solo album, according to Ray Cooper, copresident of Virgin, the Spice Girls' American label. It will be released on Capitol in America (which, like Virgin, is part of EMI worldwide) and Chrysalis in the U.K. Meanwhile, expect solo albums from Halliwell's former band mates, now working on the third Spice Girls album. Says Cooper: ''They want to build solo careers while working as a group. Long-term plans are to spin off [projects] for individual Spice Girls over the next two years.'' So much Spicy product could lead to a future boxed set. Suggested title: Indigestion.
RAPPING ON METAL Motormouthed rapper Busta Rhymes and metal titan Ozzy Osbourne are the latest improbable duo to jump on the rock-rap team-up bandwagon. On Oct. 18, the pair laid down a version of the Black Sabbath classic ''Iron Man'' (retitled ''This Means War'') for Rhymes' upcoming album. ''It sounds really raw and dark, like Black Sabbath, but it's definitely hip-hop,'' says coproducer Kaves, a member of the metallic-rap group Lordz of Brooklyn. Both Rhymes and Osbourne are pleased with the results. Rhymes recalls, ''When I first heard 'Iron Man,' I knew I had to collaborate with Ozzy.'' Says Osbourne: ''I was a bit reluctant, because he's the first rapper I've ever met, but I was pleasantly surprised. He don't mince his words, do he? I mean, he don't f--- around.''
