APPOINTMENT Scott Sassa, 39, as president of NBC Entertainment, Oct. 26, replacing Warren Littlefield, who held the position for eight years. Sassa helped build the Turner Broadcasting System's cable channels before joining NBC as president of the stations division one year ago; he'll take over for NBC West Coast president Don Ohlmeyer when Ohlmeyer's contract expires in '99. Said NBC CEO and president Bob Wright, ''Scott has that rare mix of creative talent and business acumen, which makes him...well suited to follow in Don's footsteps.''
LAWSUITS Real estate agent-turned-author Michael Costanza, 43, filed a defamation suit against Jerry Seinfeld, 44, and Seinfeld's producers, Oct. 23, in New York City. In court papers, Costanza, who attended Queens College with Seinfeld and wrote 1997's The Real Seinfeld, alleges that he, not series cocreator Larry David, is the basis for the character of George Costanza. He claims the sitcom ''portrays (him) in a negative light'' and is seeking $100 million. Through a spokesperson, David said: ''Costanza is a flagrant opportunist. His only connection to the show is that Jerry remembered his last name.''
...Illusionist David Copperfield, 42, filed a $30 million defamation suit against the publishers of Paris Match, Oct. 20, in New York. In court papers, Copperfield alleges the European mag knowingly published an untrue story claiming his relationship with model Claudia Schiffer was a sham. A Paris Match rep declined to comment.
....Secretary Georgina Galanis, age unavailable, filed an $8 million battery suit against model Naomi Campbell, 28, Oct. 21, in New York. Galanis charges that Campbell hit her with a phone and threatened to toss her from a car during the nine days she was in Campbell's employ. In a statement, Campbell's rep called the charges ''an attempt by a disgruntled former employee to make money.''
