With its ridiculous lyrics (''A friend in need's a friend indeed/A friend with weed is better'') and plodding Rush-goes-techno vibe, ''Pure Morning'' at first seems to be pure dross. Still, it's as impossible to deny the moronic catchiness of this nasty little nursery rhyme as it is to ignore the wild unisex appeal of singer-guitarist Brian Molko, Placebo's gender-bending leader. In the end, resistance is futile. B
