This second album from the singer-songwriter-guitarist-producer John Jennings, best known for co-shaping Mary Chapin Carpenter's sound, is a beautiful downer about the futility of love and relationships. The jazzy blues meditation of ''My First Career,'' which compares life to a circus, delivers more thrills than the big top itself. But the best cut on I Belong to You is the title song, with Carpenter, about a couple locked in a cycle of physical abuse. Not recommended for manic-depressives. B
