Video's comeback year rolls on, with Armageddon rentals hurtling out of stores at almost twice the pace of No. 2 Godzilla and Jennifer Love Hewitt's party comedy Can't Hardly Wait sneaking into the very competitive pack at No. 10. Year-to-date rental volume is up 9 percent over 1997's level, VSDA VidTrac reports; and 1998 spending is projected to rise 6.6 percent, to $9.6 billion, the biggest one-year gain since 1992, Adams Media Research says. The lone dissenter: Alexander & Associates' consumer poll, which shows a downtick in rental volume. But sales indicators, helped along by Titanic, are all pointing up.
