It's a bonding of kindred free spirits when a lonely girl (Mischa Barton) from the sterilized suburbs befriends a white-trash yardman (Sam Rockwell). Yet their friendship is so damned quirky and precious you won't believe it for a minute. Lawn Dogs' director John Duigan (Sirens) serves up every key scene as a show-offy stunt: from Rockwell defiantly blocking traffic while he strips and high-dives off a bridge, to the girl, casually peeing on her daddy's shiny car. It's joyless artifice that only makes these people seem more perverse. Just what they needed. D
