Neil Diamond may not possess the silkiest voice, but he's always been able to couch his lugubrious growl in simple pop melodies that artfully conceal his shortcomings. Not so on the collection of movie music, The Movie Album—As Time Goes By, which is overripe with orchestral bloat and portentous arrangements that run roughshod over Diamond's clunky crooning. C
