About to Choke (1997)

Details Lead Performance: Vic Chesnutt; Genre: Country

Although his talent as a songwriter was first recognized with the release of the second Sweet Relief record, it's via Vic Chesnutt's distracted whine that his songs truly come to life. Veering from playful swing (''Little Vacation'') to somber asceticism (''New Town'') to poppy, acoustic rock (''Degenerate'') — with all stops in between — About to Choke is perhaps Chesnutt's most vibrant record yet.
