The Doo Wop Box II (1997)

EW's GRADE
A

Details Lead Performance: Various Artists; Genre: Reissues

Doo-wop, with its swooning harmonies and gleeful teenage arias, perfectly captured the magic of youthful innocence, exuberance, and romantic passion; if you're immune to its charms, your heart is wrapped in lead. The four-CD Doo Wop Box II may be missing many cornerstones of the genre (see Box I), but nestled among the worthy obscurities are certified classics like Jive Five's ''What Time Is It?'' and the Volume's' ''I Love You'' — performances as timeless as desire itself.
