Q In one of Jerry Maguire's funnier refrains, Jonathan Lipnicki, the film's scene-stealing tyke, informs Tom Cruise that ''the human head weighs eight pounds.'' True?
A No. Although there is some dispute about exactly how much an average noggin weighs, by all accounts the kid's number is too low. Craniosacral therapist Ken Frey, director of New York's Institute of Physical Therapy, says a typical head tips the scales at 14 to 15 pounds. Meanwhile, Scott Carrier, a spokesman for the Los Angeles coroner's office, maintains that the exact answer depends on where ''you sever the head to weigh it. From the jawbone up, the average human head weighs approximately 11 pounds. It sounds gross, but if you like Freddy Krueger movies, then that's your bailiwick.''
