* A CHORUS OF DISAPPROVAL WHERE IT'LL PLAY: 20 urban markets, starting Feb. 28. WHY NOW? This British comedy about a small-town theatrical troupe, starring Anthony Hopkins and Jeremy Irons, was pulled from its original 1989 U.S. release after two weeks because the distributor, South Gate Films, went bankrupt. WHAT'S NEW? Not a bloomin' thing. WILL PEOPLE GO? Yes! So says director Michael Winner (Death Wish I-III). "I rented it on video to show my girlfriend about six months ago," he says. "It held up brilliantly, to be perfectly conceited about it."
* PINK FLAMINGOS WHERE IT'LL PLAY: Major-city art houses, where people are generally inured to horrors like the sight of a 300-pound Divine eating doggy-do. "This is one rerelease," says director John Waters, "that is definitely not coming to a neighborhood theater near you." WHY NOW? 25th anniversary. WHAT'S NEW? A prologue by Waters, who prohibits smoking in the theater as he puffs away, and an afterword with 13 minutes of unseen footage. BEST WAY TO WATCH: On an empty stomach.
