Fran Drescher takes The Nanny to a fictional Eastern European country. As a beautician mistaken for a schoolteacher who could educate a gruff dictator's children, she opens up the heart (and wardrobe) of the beast (Timothy Dalton), advancing the cause of democracy and mascara. Drescher, as always, plays a Jewish salt of the earth poured into the figure of a Barbie doll, and her good-natured spiciness carries her further than most sitcom stars trying to jump-start a movie career.
