The power of this fine film — Broderick's directorial debut, which received a cursory theatrical run — lies in its director-star's ability to see his real-life subject objectively while still creating a touching human story. In the early '40s, Richard Feynman (Broderick) is a young physicist whose great love, besides mathematics, is his wife, Arline (Arquette) — who develops tuberculosis in her 20s. As Arline worsens, Feynman splits his time between tending to her and developing the atom bomb. Infinity has the sepia look of old photographs, as well as a lovely, Coplandesque score by Bruce Broughton and a resistance to easy tears. The big screen wasn't intimate enough for Infinity, making home video the perfect place to discover this gem.
