Normal Life (1996)

Details Rated: R; Genres: Drama, Mystery and Thriller; With: Ashley Judd and Luke Perry

The heavy air of real life hangs over this twisted romance from Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer director John McNaughton. It's weighted with a sadness that keeps denting the surface of what might have been yet another example of slick make-believe about how erotic crime can be. Judd's Pam is certainly juicy, but she's also suicidally messed up. Her foray into felony with the husband who wants only her love (a mustachioed Perry, who like Judd is perfect for the role) doesn't exactly stabilize her; there can be no such thing as a conventional life for this pair. And though it resembles a hundred other hot-'n'-sexy titles cramming video stores, Normal Life (which debuted on HBO before playing in a few theaters) is no normal entertainment.
