SOLO Mario Van Peebles, William Sadler (1996, Columbia TriStar, PG-13, priced for rental) There's a clever movie continually bubbling under this tale of a military android discovering his humanity: Solo's bald head, for example, is apparently influenced by Michael Jordan, though his defense of a small jungle village evokes Yul Brynner in The Magnificent Seven. While this is the kind of action film meant to find forgiveness on video, the only improvement the medium adds is the chance to freeze-frame the hands of four crew members catching an actor during a fight scene.
