Simon & Schuster has agreed to pay Scream director and A Nightmare on Elm Street creator Wes Craven a reported $1 million for his first novel, which he calls The Fountain Society. Craven had nothing on the page but delivered a detailed pitch in his meetings with publishers. S&S will publish the medical thriller in the fall of '98.
Expect revelations galore about Courtney Love: Simon & Schuster will pay punk horror novelist Poppy Z. Brite in the mid-six-figure range for a juicy unauthorized biography of the outspoken singer/actress. Courtney Love: The Real Story is set for release in November '97.
