Created by San Francisco design group the Silver Planet Studio, The Film 100 ranks ''film's most important visionaries'' from No. 1 (W.K.L. Dickson, the Edison assistant who truly invented moving pictures as we know them) to No. 100 (maverick director John Cassavetes), giving them their due through cogent bios and links. Despite appearances by such idols as Marlon Brando and Bette Davis, the emphasis is more on stylistic and technical breakthroughs than glam quotient, so choreographers (Busby Berkeley), stuntmen (Yakima Canutt), businessmen (Ted Turner), and even critics (Siskel and Ebert) stand alongside directors (Hitchcock, Spielberg) and stars (Garbo, Eastwood).
