Album Review: 'Tubeway Army: Premier Hits'

Best remembered for his lurching, antiseptic hit, ''Cars'' Numan was a kind of poor man's post-glam David Bowie — in his music he comes across as androgynous, lonely, and desperate to be a star. By and large, the other 16 tracks are as odd — and as catchy — as ''Cars.'' And with electronica now the official future rock & roll, these synth-pop inventions look pretty prescient. B+
