CHASING AMY (R) The first boy-meets-lesbian romantic comedy. At a glance, Holden (Ben Affleck) and Alyssa (Joey Lauren Adams) look made for each other. They're in their 20s, from neighboring towns in New Jersey, and both are successful comic-book artists. Alyssa, though, only likes to sleep with girls. Then she realizes she's attracted to Holden -- and that's just the start of their problems. Kevin Smith, best known for the cult convenience-store comedy Clerks, writes dialogue that's dense, showy, and studded with raunchy laugh lines. Still, he isn't fooling around anymore. In Chasing Amy, his exploration of love in the age of gender politics feels messy, passionate, and true. B+
