FIRST WIVES CLUB author Olivia Goldsmith can thank Bette, Goldie, and Diane for her new book deal. Even though her last two books performed dismally, Goldsmith has snagged $3.5 million from HarperCollins for her next two. ''Her popularity has increased manyfold thanks to the movie,'' says her editor. Switcheroo, due in 1998, is about a wife and mistress who trade places; the second novel, a sequel to First Wives, is due in 1999.
LITTLE BROWN will pay Bob Spitz $350,000 for the first ''massively researched, full-scale, unauthorized biography'' of the Beatles by someone not in the band's camp. The manuscript is due in 1999.
