Dig Me Out (1997)

A lot of clever, spit-in-your-eye noise from three chicks, two guitars, and a drum kit. The guitar squall of Corin Tucker and Carrie Brownstein of Sleater-Kinney proves they can play with the boys, but it's their interlocking vocals — sometimes mesmerizing, sometimes dizzying — that propel the album Dig Me Out's best songs (''One More Hour''). Only overly clear production mars an otherwise fine example of state-of-the-art punk. B+
