Jews and the Abstract Truth (1997)

EW's GRADE
B+

Details Lead Performance: Hasidic New Wave; Genre: Jazz

Conventional klezmer this is not. Hasidic New Wave marries Hasidic wedding music to avant-jazz, spinning traditional Jewish celebratory songs into extended jazz improvisations that incorporate ferocious horn blowing and raucous electric-guitar solos. Deeply reverent but by no means faithful, Jews and the Abstract Truth is a decidedly unorthodox reading of orthodox culture. B+
