WATER De Bont probably should have checked with Kevin Costner before he decided on a nautical shoot. One unwelcome visitor while on location in Key West was Hurricane Lili. "It's hard to make a deal with Zeus and Poseidon," says Peyser. "Their agents weren't available." As if Mother Nature weren't enough, during one stunt, Bullock reportedly was almost turned into chum by a ship's rudder. Says De Bont philosophically, "They say working with kids and water is one of the worst things to do. It's probably true." That, and trying to follow up a hit.
