Lead Performance: Meredith Brooks

Meredith Brooks' debut sounds like the naturQal successor to Sheryl Crow's Tuesday Night Music Club — more natural, in fact, than Crow's second album. Her well-constructed, bittersweet blues-pop in Blurring the Edges deals with familiar material — from bad first dates to good first kisses — and is leavened with hooks and humor and a refreshing, unself-conscious swagger.
