Country folksinger Tom Russell makes the old new again in The Long Way Around, by rerecording his best-known songs (plus three new ones) with duet partners Iris DeMent, Nanci Griffith, Dave Alvin, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, and Katy Moffatt. Russell's dramatic, self-important baritone can be grating, but his finest work would get the nod from Woody Guthrie himself. B
