Encapsulating this subgenre on three CDs is a tall order. But these 18-track collections, Poptopia! Power Pop Classics of the '70s, '80s and '90s, do a pretty decent job, whipping up a satisfying sampling of hook-intensive songcraft by hitmakers (Cheap Trick, Todd Rundgren), cult legends (Big Star, Flamin' Groovies), unsung greats (The dB's, Tommy Keene) and inventive up-and-comers (Zumpano, Wondermints). '70s: B+ '80s: B+ '90s: B+
