Veteran tenor saxophonist Charles Lloyd makes no radical departures from his last four ECM albums, but is refining as he goes. He gets a lot of help in Canto from great underdog pianist Bobo Stenson, bassist Anders Jormin, and drummer Billy Hart in creating Coltrane-influenced music, both meditative and tough. Lloyd can be intense and dreamy, and his pieces are fine improvisational playgrounds for his cohorts. A-
