IT HAD TO BE 'DREW'
It's great to see the under-appreciated Drew Carey Show finally
getting its due and appearing on your cover (#382, June 6). I've
been a faithful viewer since the show began and I hope it lasts
long enough to earn another cover maybe even an episode guide,
a la your Seinfeld issue. Thanks again!

THRILL-A-MINUTE
I am a longtime reader and fan of EW, but I have to take issue
with some of Bruce Fretts' comments in ''Anatomy of a TV Season.''
While I can't argue with the ratings, I believe that NBC's
''Thrillogy'' is far from the ''less than Thrilling'' that Fretts
dubbed it. Well, okay, I'll give you Dark Skies; it was just
bad. But The Pretender and Profiler are a gift to Saturday night
TV, where shows are often sent to die. As for CBS' America's
Night of Television leaving Fretts yearning to move to Canada;
sorry, Bruce, all we get are American channels anyway. And hockey.

PEOPLE'S CHOICE
In your ''Tyrannosaurus Plex'' article you only briefly touched on
the benefits the audience reaps with the advent of the megaplex.
AMC recently opened a 24-screen mecca in my town, wildly
superior to any theater that preceded it in comfort, in
quality, and in spectacle. As long as these titans of popcorn
maintain the quality along with their size, I say, the more the
merrier.

PEAKE OF THE LITTER
Well, you've done it. you've made EW my favorite magazine by
your mention of Mervyn Peake's ''Gormen-ghast Trilogy'' as part of
an eclectic summer reading list (''Hot Days, Cool Reads''). In
these days of mass-produced entertainment, a magazine with the
quirky insight to recommend Peake's fantasy saga in lieu of the
tiresome Grisham du jour wins my most fervent applause.

COUCH-POTATO FAMINE
Regarding the article ''Net Worth'': With the obvious reasons for
the decline of network viewership cable, bland programming,
etc. it wasn't suggested that perhaps computers and the
Internet are also taking their share of potatoes from the couch.
