As Lefty Ruggiero, an aging small-time mobster, Al Pacino vividly etches a tragicomic portrait of a goodfella in decline. It's one of his better gangsters and best performances but Donnie Brasco is hardly a one-man show. Johnny Depp more than earns his equal billing, as the titular undercover cop who wins Lefty's friendship and trust (and nearly loses his own identity) while infiltrating the Mafia. Based on the memoirs of real-life fed Joseph Pistone, this story of honor and betrayal among thieves has an emotional complexity that warrants a second viewing on video. But it's the electric interplay between Pacino and Depp that will make it a Mob movie classic. A
