It may be reductive, though not unfair, to say that Teenage Fanclub have essentially been making the same album since 1991's admittedly sublime Bandwagonesque. Maybe they let all those cred-enhancing Big Star comparisons go to their heads, but their airy, achy rock balladry, while remaining just barely proficient, has grown utterly wearying in Songs from Northern Britain. C-
