Details Writer: Dean Radin; Genre: Pop Culture

Attempting to de-quackify the study of psychic phenomena, parapsychologist Dean Radin, PhD. (whose research has been sponsored by the U.S. government, AT&T, and Stanford University, among others) analyzed all the serious studies on telepathy, psychokinesis, clairvoyance, and precognition for this intriguing, exhaustive tome. Though The Conscious Universe: The Scientific Truth of Psychic Phenomena is full of undeniable X-Files appeal — like pieces on the CIA's psychic spies and mind-control casino betting — the jargon and endless statistics could give even Scully pause. While skeptics certainly won't be swayed by any of Radin's arguments, this lively scrutiny of the sixth sense still makes for fun reading. B+
