Earnest saxist Chris Potter, 26, who first gained notice for straight-ahead work with Red Rodney and Marian McPartland, aims for a more cutting-edge feel in Unspoken. His originals are greatly enhanced by guitarist John Scofield, drummer Jack DeJohnette, and bassist Dave Holland. In fact, the most rewardingly inventive moments occur when Potter lays out and the rhythm players dart about with dragonfly-like agility. B
