All Sides Now (1997)

EW's GRADE
B+

Details Lead Performance: Pat Martino; Genre: Jazz

Unpretentious, witty, and gently swinging, the duet between Pat Martino and Les Paul on ''I'm Confessin''' — All Sides Now's high point — just glows. It's so joyously mellow that following it with a hard-edged, rock-tinged Martino/Joe Satriani duet is jarring. Fortunately, that's the only serious misstep in this set, which pairs thoughtful, accessible player Martino with fellow guitarists plus one vocalist, Cassandra Wilson. B+
