The Long Road (1997)

EW's GRADE
B+

Details Lead Performance: Pam Gadd; Genre: Country

The solo debut by former Wild Rose singer-banjoist Pam Gadd is an amusing blend of old-timey bluegrass and '90s-girl sass. Whether tossing off a rollicking cover of the Osborne Brothers' ''Listening to the Rain'' or pitching wry feminism onto Gillian Welch's ''Patiently Waiting,'' Gadd's instrumental chops on The Long Road are daunting. Even more impressive is her voice: It goes down like honey with a touch of sour mash. B+
