Dennis Rodman has nothing on Joe Namath. The New York Jets quarterback was sporting panty hose, starring in bad movies, and hosting his own talk show, 1969's The Joe Namath Show (Classic Sports Network, Wednesdays, 8-8:30 p.m. and Saturdays, 11-11:30 p.m.), back when Rodman was still in a training bra. Namath's program, which aired locally in New York City, was cohosted by Dick Schaap, coauthor of Namath's best-selling autobiography I Can't Wait Until Tomorrow...'Cause I Get Better Looking Every Day. The dimple-chinned Super Bowl champ chatted up such celebrity guests as Muhammad Ali, Woody Allen, and Truman Capote (who claimed he played ''center field'' for his boarding school football team). With LeRoy Neiman paintings adorning the set, a groovy theme song, and a bubbleheaded announcer known as ''The Namath Girl,'' this is a virtual time capsule of the swinging '60s. The cable network is re-airing the episodes complete with Namath's vintage commercials for Excedrin and Score hair cream. What an aptly named product: Namath scored plenty in his heyday, both on and off the field.
