Details Lead Performance: Trance Groove

Twenty-five years ago, the fusion of groove and electronics in Paramount would have been deemed jazz — the free, funky strain that was spearheaded by Miles Davis and that was more concerned with texture than narrative. But because a DJ scratches an occasional sample here, the music of the German drummers, organists, and guitarists of Trance Groove is considered electronica. An old bag with a new name but otherwise lacking innovation. B-
