IN & OUT (PG-13) It's that groundbreaking thing: a truly funny, sophisticated, mainstream Hollywood comedy about modern American homosexuality. Kevin Kline, deft and elegantly contained, stars as a Midwestern high school teacher who is ''outed'' on TV by a former student (Matt Dillon, generous in self-parody) -- much to the shock of his family and fiancee (Joan Cusack, earning major compassionate laughs). As a sharky, gay TV journalist investigating the story, Tom Selleck charms by playing in contrast to his own determinedly hetero persona. And, oh, that zinger of a Paul Rudnick script! A-
