Video Review: 'The Quiet Room'

Alienated by her parents' daily arguments, a flaxen-haired 7-year-old (Ferguson) stops speaking. Writer-director Rolf de Heer doesn't aspire to match the poignancy of Kolya or Ponette — his heroine's dramatic protest amounts to little more than an elaborate temper tantrum — but as we hear her inner monologue, the universe inside a little girl's head seems at first a precocious wonder, then more and more the melodramatic musings (''I make my own peace'') of a thoroughly therapized adult.
