CAIN James Byron Huggins (Simon & Schuster, $23) With the movie rights to this semiliterate fantasy adventure scarfed up by Bruce Willis for a reported $1 million, it was inevitable that the novel would be published to considerable fanfare. What's not is that anybody with an IQ above that of a potted geranium would actually read the fool thing. See, there's this ancient bloodthirsty biblical demon with the speed of a racehorse and the strength of 20 men accidentally turned loose near Roswell, N.M.; it's infected with viruses capable of wiping out the human race. Only three people can save mankind -- a scholarly priest, a burned-out supersoldier, and a scientist babe. (Gee, which one will Willis play?) Any reader who can keep a straight face for two pages will end up rooting for the demon. F
