Guitar hero McLaughlin has divided his recordings over the last few years between thoughtfully conceived jazz projects and standard-issue fusion fodder. Falling squarely in the latter category, Heart doesn't lack for energy or flashy technical displays, but its thick patina of anonymity is unworthy of its still-vital creator. B-
