Album Review: '200 Motels'

EW's GRADE
B

Details Lead Performance: Frank Zappa; Genres: Reissues, Soundtracks

This long-out-of-print soundtrack to Zappa's 1971 movie is as brilliantly demented as the film itself, offering a bizarro mix of orchestral, rock, and mock show tunes about a band's ''life on ze road'' (as narrator Theo Bikel puts it). Those with a yen for challenging music (to say nothing of perversity and salaciousness) will find some prime stuff here. And who else but Uncle Frank could have induced the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra to play a piece called ''Penis Dimension''? B
