It hasn't been a stellar fall for Little, Brown. First Paula Barbieri's memoir bombed; then critics savaged Seymour Hersh's JFK book. But this week, in a rare feat, the company has titles topping both the fiction and nonfiction lists. Making Faces (199,000 copies in print) landed at No. 1 after makeup whiz Kevyn Aucoin appeared on Oprah (where, wielding brushes and pots, he turned the talk-show host into Diana Ross). And James Patterson, already coasting on the paperback version of Kiss the Girls, nabbed the fiction spot with his new Alex Cross thriller, Cat & Mouse (525,000 in print).
