Speed 2: Cruise Control (1997)

Pop quiz: You're the exec in charge of the sequel to the smash hit Speed. The original leading man, Keanu Reeves, has decided that he'd rather play bass than play ball, and you've replaced him with the dour Jason Patric. Your charismatic leading lady, Sandra Bullock, is, thanks to her heroics in the first movie, now one of Hollywood's biggest stars. You've just been handed the script, in which Bullock has nothing to do except wait for Patric to rescue her and respond to each new crisis with a whiny ''Aw, man!'' What do you do? What do you do? Well, if you go ahead and shoot Speed 2: Cruise Control as is, as the powers that be did, you alternately bore spectators to tears and irritate them to death, that's what you do. D+
